Fighting Feed Fatigue: A Newwave™ Report
2 minute read
Lines between real and artificial are blurred. The screech of Thicke and Williams' dubious aphorism has long faded into the ether, crushed by constant feeds of new white-hot noise. We're catapulted through a network of uncanny valleys at breakneck speed, only ever moments away from collision in all directions. Liberation and self-actualisation are out there somewhere, as long as our WiFi holds out. Can we ever find clarity?
At any time, we’re digitally funnelled into reconsidering what it means to be human, forced to unconsciously test our aptitude for connection and creativity in the many interactions of our days. Mundane or down right magical, patience is put on a pedestal and frequently re-tuned: we must consume the short video before we get to what we actually wanted to find out in the first place. We hopefully eyeball a familiar corner of screens for the appearance of 'skip', as if time is moving double speed. It probably is.
Does time even matter all that much anymore: does it have quality? Alexa already knows the answer, helpfully removing our agency in the process of delivery. Maybe we're all too concerned with being human to find things out the human way? When online convenience calls us to sort out our problems, or make new ones at every turn, it puts people in a perpetual state of being chronically plugged in and zoned out - never fully invested. If you're a brand figuring out where you sit in all of this, wanting to make solid connections with real people, the time is now to understand the behaviours shaping current digital discourse.
Our latest report explores the subtle and blatant behaviours shaping people's relationship with marketing, the internet, and wellbeing. It asks questions. It offers thoughts. It helps find answers.
